Bio

Steven B. Diggs Jr. born in Richmond, Virginia where he graduated from Varina High School.  He began playing the saxophone in the 7th grade.  After graduating from high school, he moved to North Carolina as a freshman at then Saint Augustine’s College, now University.  He majored in Computer Information Systems with a minor in Music.  After graduation he begin working at the Wake County Sheriff’s Office where he is still employed.

He grow up playing and singing in church at his grandparents church in Farmville, VA at First Baptist Church.  While in college he began playing at Grace AME Zion Churchin Raleigh, NC where he played for 17 years.  Three of the years at Grace AMZ Church was as a Minister of Music.  After leaving Grace played at Saint Matthew Missionary Baptist Church in Raleigh, NC for 11 years.  He is and currently plays at Vision Church RDU also in Raleigh, NC.

Steven started participating in theatrical plays in high school, playing music in musicals such as Guys and Dolls.  He then progressed to doing sounds for multiple plays in high school. He was reconnected with the art of theater thanks to the Justice Theater Project where he played for Porgy and Bess, and Oliver.  He then participated in the Wizard of Oz, The Greatest Show, and Bye Bye Birdie with the Clayton Youth Theater. Steven started with the Pure Life Theater from its beginning participating in plays like Purlie.  He received a Musical Director credit with the plays, She Persisted, and Till.  He also plays annually for the Pure Life’s Motown Sounds of Christmas, where he arranged the music for the horn section.

Steven has been happily married to this wife Vera Diggs since May 3rd, 2018 with whom he shares the blessing of 4 children, and one grandchild.
